Longview Regional Medical Center is Vital to East Texas

Delivers Essential Medical Services and Broad Impact to the Larger Community
LONGVIEW, TEXAS, (April 2, 2024) – Over the course of 2023, Longview Regional Medical Center played a vital role helping people get well and live healthier at more than 229,000 patient encounters across its hospital and growing network of Regional Clinics physician clinics and outpatient sites of care.
At more than 38,000 emergency department visits each year, lifesaving medically necessary care is provided for all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Members of the community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and the hospital has resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, Longview Regional Medical Center provided more than $22 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
“Our hospital's growth, measured not just in numbers but in the lives we've touched, is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional care and support to all who walk through our doors. Every milestone reached and every achievement celebrated is a reflection of our dedication to fulfilling our mission of improving the health and well-being of our community,” said Steve Gordon, chief executive officer of Longview Regional Medical Center.
Other support for social determinants of health in the community includes financial donations for charitable organizations such as East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance, East Texas CASA, The Martin House Children’s Advocacy Center and acts of service such as the Jars of Love drive collecting peanut and other nut butters for Newgate Mission.
Longview Regional Medical Center applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that patients want to access close to home. The Heart and Vascular Institute of Longview Regional Medical Center continues to expand and 2023 was a milestone year of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the hospital. Life-saving procedures performed for area residents include off pump coronary artery bypass, leaky mitral valve repair, carotid stenting and pacemaker implants.
Our growing East Texas community now has its first free standing ER, Longview Regional Emergency Center, to increase ease of access. Inpatient services have also grown with the opening of an 11-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility to help patients restore their health after illness and injury.
Civic resources and services are supported by Longview Regional Medical Center’s tax payments of more than $13.1 million and the payroll of more than $119 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services.
Gordon continued, “The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have that adds up to more than $192 million last year. We recognize that our services are essential to this community and we are committed to doing all we can to provide quality health care and make East Texas a healthier, better community for all.”
